Post Labor Day, it’s quite OK to still drink rosé…and now it’s on sale!

After Labor Day, you can’t wear white and you can’t drink rosé.

So say the sayings.

Never one to comment on matters sartorial, I’ll not commit on what one should or shouldn’t wear as we move into fall.

But I will go on record, in no uncertain terms, about when to drink rosé.

When?  Always.

It’s one of many outdated wine traditions…the belief that once the weather cools off, we should put away the rosé and move to hearty reds.

It is true that rosé works as an ideal accompaniment to summer heat and summer fare.  But regardless of the temperature,  rosés are wonderfully versatile.  It’s tough to get it wrong with you match rosé with a dish.  It even goes with desert.

And on its own without food, rosé works so well.  Is there a better apertif?

Here’s the great news.  Traditions die hard and retailers have succumbed.  To clear out their rosé stock, they’ve dropped prices.  For example, currently at Vinopolis in NW Portland,  there’s a wide assortment of terrific rosés on sale.  Amongst the biggest bangs for the buck is the Les Aphillanthes Côtes du Rhône.  At $11.90, it’s nothing less than an outstanding buy.

Located at NW 16th and Glisan,  Vinopolis is one intriguing wine shop. On any particular bottle,  you can spend $10 or $1,000. We’ll go into detail about Vinopolis in a later post.  In the meantime, if you’ve never been, it’s worth checking out just for the current rosé sale alone.
