07 Aug Eclipse watching…at several mid-valley wineries

There will definitely be a party.  Actually, many parties.  But this is one party that we are late to.

The “path of totality”  (isn’t that a great phrase?) for the upcoming eclipse passes right through Oregon’s mid-Willamette Valley.  Several of the wineries smack dab in the middle of the path recognized this opportunity many months ago.  They organized eclipse viewing parties at their wineries, in their vineyards, on any piece of property large enough to pitch a tent or park an RV.

It’s quite a list.  In the Salem area, Willamette Valley Vineyards, St. Innocent Winery, Arcane Cellars,  and Coria Winery will all hold special events.  Eola Hills Wine Cellars and Left Coast Cellars near Rickreall, Brooks Winery in Amity and Tyee Wine Cellars in Corvallis will also stage special eclipse viewing parties.

Depending on which event you attend, there will be live music, wine (of course), lectures from astrophysicists, special blankets, commemorative pinot noir and other goodies.

But here’s the bad news.  Virtually every one of these events is now sold out.  As of August 7, Arcane Cellars still had some limited RV spaces available.  But that’s it.  Wine drinkers/eclipse junkies apparently jumped on these special events early.  And in some cases, they paid many hundreds of dollars, and up,  to do so.
