19 Sep For Wine Thursday!, here’s a white for the end of summer and beyond, L’Ecole 2017 Luminesce
“Summer’s lease hath all too short a date”
That’s from William Shakespeare,
not Pat The Wine Guy,
but I couldn’t agree more.
Regretfully,
summer pulls out of town on Monday.
The good news:
those reds that didn’t make sense
when the temperature was 90 plus
are going to taste much better
for the next several months.
For Wine Thursday!
our weekly good-wine-at-a-good-price
that-you-can-find recommendation,
we bid adieu to summer
by highlighting one more warm-weather white.
After your first sip of L’Ecole’s Luminesce,
you might find yourself asking,
“What is this stuff? It’s great.”
That was the universal response during our blind tasting.
Everyone in the office liked it but they couldn’t identify it.
Chardonnay? Pinot Gris? Neither.
It was the Semillon that was shining through.
Semillon is the third most planted grape in France
but it’s a relatively rarity here in the US.
That’s a shame as Semillon has great character…
it’s tropical, tangy and…well… it’s just darn interesting.
Here it’s blended with Sauvignon Blanc
to make a refreshing summer send-off white.
But you might want to revisit this in November.
Luminesce would go very well with Thanksgiving turkey.
Unfortunately, it’s not in as many stores as I’d like.
We found Luminesce at Fred Meyer for $20.99.
