22 Apr For Earth Day, sustainable Pinot Gris – 2018 Montinore Estate
When it comes to sustainable farming, Oregon winemakers
have long been walking the talk.
No wine region in the U.S. has a greater commitment to
this eco-friendly process.
More than half of Oregon’s vineyards are sustainably farmed.
It’s Wine Thursday!, our weekly good-wine-
at-a-good-price-that-you-can-find recommendation,
just in time for the weekend.
This week, we’re focused on a Pinot Gris
produced by a sustainability pioneer.
Montinore Winery partner Rudy Marchesi began adopting
biodynamic practices at his Tualatin Valley vineyard
way back in the early 2000’s.
Montinore is now one of the country’s largest producers
of estate wines made from biodynamic grapes.
Included in Montinore’s biodynamic portfolio
is the 2018 Pinot Gris.
What a pleasant surprise this wine turned out to be.
It immediately comes at you
with a unique combination of flavors
including lemon-lime, Asian spice
and honey.
The acidity is bracing,
the body is full and
the finish is long.
This is one of the best examples of
sub-$15 Pinot Gris I’ve had in some time.
At retail, we found Montinore 2018 Pinot Gris
at QFC for $12.99.
Both Safeway and Fred Meyer carry it for $13.99.
You can order it online from
Empire Wine for $12.45
at Wine Deals.com for $12.99
https://www.winedeals.com/about-us.html
and at Gramercy Wine for $14.99
