10 May A to Z Wineworks 2015 Pinot Noir…and the wine snob gets smacked down!
I truly don’t consider myself a wine snob.
But I have always been dismissive of any A to Z wines. “Just a volume producer making decent wine for the masses” was my opinion.
Sounds a lot like a wine snob, doesn’t it?
As we searched the shelves for local wines to highlight during Oregon wine month, we gave A to Z’s 2015 pinot a try. I have now been officially converted.
Finding a drinkable Oregon pinot for under $20 is a never-ending challenge. Challenge met with this stuff. What a nice bottle of wine. It checks all of the “this is why we like Oregon pinot” boxes: medium-body, generous hit of cherry/currant fruit flavors, and just enough edge to make it , shall we say, provocative? Yes, we shall.
2015 was a fantabulous vintage in the Willamette Valley. The folks at A to Z humbly state that those ideal conditions significantly contributed to their successful outcome. This is “perhaps the most beautiful Pinot Noir we have made due to the perfect nature of the 2015 vintage.” Good for them for being modest but without question, they took the vintage and ran with it, producing a sub-$20 Oregon pinot that we gladly recommend.
