Distinctive California Chardonnay – 2019 Diora

Chardonnay is inescapable.

The most popular white wine in the world,

it occupies considerable space on the shelves

at any given grocery/wine shop.

Alas, most of the Chardonnay that’s

in our price range sweet spot….

between $10-$20…is indistinct

i.e. boring.

For Wine Thursday!, our weekly good-wine-

at-a-good-price-that-you-can-find review,

we’re checking out a Chardonnay

that could be described as polarizing.

Love it or loathe it, it does leave an impression.

When evaluating a wine, I make it a habit

to search on line for consumer feedback.

After reading a number of negative comments

on Diora’s 2019 Chardonnay…”long unpleasant finish”,

“overwhelming bitterness”, “a waste of time”…

I couldn’t wait to try it myself.

My comment about those comments:  “Huh?”

There’s a glut of hum-drum mid-priced Chardonnay on the market.

In that sea of sameness, I found the Diora

to be a refreshing alternative.

It comes out of the gate strong with

pineapple and butterscotch aromas.

The oak tones are present but not overpowering.

Medium-bodied and creamy, there’s just enough acidity here

to keep things interesting.

An interesting affordable Chardonnay.

That’s not a waste of time.

That’s a find.
