24 Dec Say goodbye to 2020 with a good buy – Planet Oregon 2018 pinot noir
One of the very few ways in which 2020 did not disappoint:
it brought us a year-long parade of good wine buys.
And who doesn’t love a parade?
It’s Wine Thursday!, our good-wine-at-a-good-price-
that-you-can-find-recommendation, just in time for your holidays.
And the parade continues.
It wasn’t that long ago when it was all-but-impossible to find
quality Oregon pinot noir for less than $30.
This week’s featured wine is an example of how that stereotype
has been flipped on its head.
Planet Oregon is the second (i.e. lower-priced) label of the acclaimed Soter Vineyards.
Coming in at about 1/3 the price of Soter’s mainstream pinots,
Planet Oregon nonetheless reflects Soter’s commitment
to excellence and the environment.
The ’18 is light and bright with tangy flavors of cherry and strawberry
in a framework of medium tannins.
Regarding the environment, Planet Oregon wines are made from sustainably-farmed grapes.
A portion of the proceeds from Planet Oregon wine is pledged
to the Oregon Environmental Council.
The lowest price we found for Planet Oregon 2018 pinot noir is $16.99
at Internet Wines.com.
If you’re in Los Angeles or San Francisco, you can find Planet Oregon 2018 pinot noir
at K & L Wines for $18.95.
It’s at Fred Meyer, QFC and Whole Foods for $20.99.
You can order it from the winery for $22.
