09 Nov For your Turkey Day table – Four Graces Pinot Gris
Here’s today’s somewhat-nerdy fun wine fact.
Pinot Noir is dark.
Pinot Gris is light.
But basically, they come from the same grape.
The experts believe that hundreds of years ago in Burgundy,
winemakers experimented with Pinot Noir and came up with
a lighter-skinned mutation that we now refer to as Pinot Gris.
Known for their versatility across a spectrum of different foods,
Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris have become Thanksgiving meal go-to’s.
It’s Wine Thursday!, our regular
“here’s a wine you might want to try” feature,
highlighting a wine that sells at a reasonable price
and is easy to find at the store and online.
Right now, we’re focused on the holiday at hand.
We’re seeking out wines that we believe will
work well with your upcoming Thanksgiving feast.

Where it’s from
This week’s featured wine hails from one of the
hottest (as in popularity, not temperature) wine producing regions
in the country, the North Willamette Valley.
Four Graces Winery, located just outside Dundee, Oregon,
produces several good bang-for-the-buck offerings including
Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and of course,
the Willamette Valley’s claim to fame, Pinot Noir.
What it is
If you’re hosting a crowd this Thanksgiving,
Four Graces Willamette Valley Pinot Gris could be your crowd pleaser.
It has enough body and acidity to please those with discerning palates.
At the same time, it’s smooth…no rough edges here…which will play well
with those who prefer an easy sipper.
Aromatic and vibrant, it shows pear, apple and melon fruit flavors
that combine with a citrus edge on the way to a long finish.
For Thanksgiving, you could start pouring this with the appetizers
and continue to serve throughout the entire meal.
It’s that food-friendly.
