The blend is your friend! 2014 Rubeo by Penner-Ash

If unique is what you seek, here you go: 2014 Rubeo by Penner-Ash.

We continue our salute to Oregon Wine Month with an out-of-the-ordinary blend from Newberg.

Rubeo is two thirds syrah and one third…wait for it…pinot noir.

Pinot noir normally sits on its own.   It’s a finicky, challenging grape.  And expensive to grow…too expensive to throw into a mix.

Blending grapes are usually just the opposite.  Cheap and easy.

That might be too much information.   All you want to know is, “how does it taste?”

Rubeo tastes pretty good.

You’ll definitely notice the syrah spice but you also can’t miss the trademark pinot earthiness.

Penner-Ash have done a nice job of bringing out the best of both grapes.

Rubeo is another Oregon overachiever from the outstanding 2014 vintage.

Here’s a time saver:  you won’t find Rubeo at Trader Joe’s or Costco.  But it is on the shelf at most Fred Meyer and Safeway locations around town.
