Here comes Labor Day! – Condes de Albarei 2019 albariño

Labor Day…and the end of this most unusual summer…is approaching.

If you’re planning a barbecue to mark the occasion, we have two wines

that we’ll feature over our next two posts that will compliment

your socially-distanced outdoor get-together.

It’s Wine Thursday!, our good-wine-at-a-good-price-that-you-can-find recommendation,

just in time for the weekend.

Yes, Labor Day is two weekends away but if you want to get a jump on things

by trying this week’s pick…well, that wouldn’t be a bad move at all.

Let’s jump ahead to the holiday.

When you’re in the early stages of your Labor Day cookout,

while you’re nibbling on appetizers and prepping the grill,

a glass of Condes de Albarei albariño would be an ideal accompaniment.

Albarińo:  crisp, light, refreshing and, in my opinion, vastly underrated.

Most albarińo comes from Rias Baixas (ree-uhs bai-chas),

a region in northwest Spain that hugs the Atlantic coast.

Albarińo is often compared to sauvignon blanc and/or pinot gris.

But I find it more interesting, combining a subtle salty flavor with a touch of citrus.

It’s the perfect pairing with any and all types of seafood

but it drinks quite well just on its own.

At 13 dollars or less, its value is undeniable.

We found Condes de Albarei 2019 albariño at Safeway for $11.99.

Fred Meyer, QFC and Wine.com have it for $12.99.
