Holiday Chardonnay – 2021 Daou Paso Robles

Is it too early to be thinking about the holidays?

I would submit that it is.

But tell that to the national big box hardware/building supply stores.

Both Lowe’s and Home Depot plopped down artificial Xmas trees

on their main shopping aisles over two weeks ago.

At least they aren’t playing Xmas music…yet.

On the other hand, it might not be too early to start auditioning wines

for the Thanksgiving table.

There’s plenty of time to think about it.

Turkey Day is still four weeks away.

But narrowing down the possibilities in advance makes sense.

Basic RGB

It’s Wine Thursday!

As the weekend beckons, we’re shining a light on a good wine

that sells at a reasonable price and is easy to find at the store and online.

While this week’s featured wine is a good option for the upcoming weekend,

it’s also one to keep in mind as you pull together your Turkey Day wine lineup.

Where it’s from

The scenic Paso Robles hill country is located near the coast

almost exactly halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

The Daou Family Winery is one of the many notable Paso producers.

Daou’s lineup includes triple-digit flagship wines as well as

everyday-priced reds and whites that reliably overdeliver.

What it is

Daou’s entry-level Chardonnay is a gem.

It’s clean and refreshing yet creamy.

Buttery/oaky California Chard?  Not this one.

Up front, there are fruit flavors…pineapple and apple…combined with a hint of ginger.

The long finish features savory spices and a touch of hazelnut.

While no single wine pairs perfectly with every dish on the Thanksgiving table,

Daou’s Chardonnay would be a terrific compliment to roast turkey and roasted vegetables.

It would also serve as a great aperitif.
