Walla Walla red blend – The Jack 2019 red wine

Walla Walla boasts a number of wineries

that consistently deliver exceptional value.

Include Saviah Cellars on that list.

Saviah has an impressive lineup in the $30 to $40 range.

Then there’s Saviah’s sub-brand…their second label… known as “The Jack”

where the bang-for-the-average-wine-drinker’s-buck

might be even better.

It’s Wine Thursday!, our weekly good-wine-at-a-good-price-

that-you-can-find recommendation,

just in time for your weekend.

With many parts of the country currently prepping

for some chilly winter weather, a hearty red blend,

like The Jack red, seems quite apropos.

The Jack has a big family.

There is a Jack Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Grenache,

Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé.

We’re homing in on what is simply known as

The Jack red wine.

Merlot is this blend’s backbone.

The Jack red is 70% Merlot with the remainder

being equal parts Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

Give this wine a little time.  Straight out of the bottle,

it’s somewhat tart and astringent.

After some exposure to air…say at least 15 minutes…the Merlot

comes to the front, showing dark fruit and vanilla notes.

The Jack red would pair well with roast beef, roast chicken

or pasta dishes that are heavy on the garlic.
